ABOUT
JMI Live will be hosting a very special event featuring jazz bands from Mt Gravatt SHS and the JMI Jazz Orchestra. This is a free event for families and friends to attend to watch the students of Mt Gravatt SHS perform on the same stage as the JMI Jazz Orchestra at JMI’s intimate jazz club on campus.
6:30pm Mt Gravatt Stage Band
This is the second of three Jazz Ensembles at Mount Gravatt SHS. The group comprises of students predominantly in grades 7-9 with only three students in their senior years. The ensemble has been working on controlling, dynamics, articulation across a wide variety of styles of music. In addition to tonight’s performance, the group is working towards future performances at MusicFest and the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, Tonight, Stage Band will play 3 pieces.

7pm Mt Gravatt Big Band
This is the top Jazz Ensemble at Mount Gravatt SHS. The focus of this ensemble is to bring together all of the skills learned and developed in the previous two ensembles to create a refined performance. Next week, this ensemble will travel to Mount Gambier to participate in the Generations in Jazz festival. This 3 day festival is a great immersion in Jazz for these young musicians. Workshops, Concerts featuring world class musicians are just a few of the events in store.
Tonight, Big Band will perform their setlist for the upcoming trip.
The Bold One- by Steve Newcomb, I Remember Clifford arr Morales and Alone Together Arr Kamuff.
Both ensembles are extremely grateful for the opportunity provided by the entire JMI team. The great privilege to play at this facility has not been lost on the students.

7:30 JMI Jazz Orchestra
The JMI Jazz Orchestra is an 18-piece big band made of up of students and staff from the Jazz Music Institute. The JMI Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the incredible music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Through performing the music of these legends gives the students a strong foundation of understanding the breadth of Big Band music. The JMI Jazz Orchestra performs regularly around Brisbane at various locations and community festivals. In 2021 the JMI Jazz Orchestra toured to regional Queensland. The JMI Jazz Orchestra in 2021 toured to regional Queensland and in 2022 Toured interstate to perform at Big Band Blast.

Tickets are being sold through Humanitix. Register your seated tickets here. Due to JMI Live being an intimate space, we have a maximum number of guests allowed in the venue. We highly recommend it is best to get in early before tickets sell out.
