JMI’s infamous Summer Jazz Clinics will be running again in January 2020 in Brisbane and Canberra!
These clinics have been running since the late 1970s and have been instrumental in the development of many of Australia’s finest jazz musicians. The clinics are a 4-day short course in jazz performance that will be delivered by JMI’s esteemed faculty.
Ideal for anyone looking to either start learning how to play jazz, or build upon the knowledge they already have, these clinics are delivered in a fun and relaxed environment conducive to learning and growth. These are perfect for musicians of all ages and abilities, from young musicians looking for extra musical development, to mature age musicians looking to spark their passion for jazz.
Each day will consist of three sessions that will include the following:
- How to perform in a small jazz ensemble setting
- Developing improvisation techniques
- Building on music theory knowledge
- Instrument-specific technique
At the end of each day, the faculty will perform a short concert for participants. On the final day, there will be a small intimate concert where all participants perform to family and friends at JMI’s very own jazz club, JMI Live.
The clinics will be held in Brisbane from 13th to 17th January 2020 at JMI’s campus in Bowen Hills and in Canberra from 20th to 23rd January 2020 at ANU School of Music.
