FREE Audition Packs available for 2025 JMI Auditions

Auditions are now open for 2025 entry into JMI’s Bachelor and Diploma programs!

To help you prepare for an audition at JMI, we’ve developed a FREE audition pack, which is downloadable on our website here.

JMI audition packs

What’s in the audition pack?

The audition pack includes detailed information about the audition requirements for 2025 and what each instrument needs to perform in their audition.

We have also included a range of play along videos that are on JMI’s YouTube Channel. In these play along videos, you can practice your repertoire performance with the rhythm section you will perform with in your audition, featuring JMI’s CEO Nick Quigley on bass, Head of School Paula Girvan on piano, and current student Evan J. Evans on drums.

In these videos, we explain what you need to perform in the repertoire performance and provide a backing track for you to practice performing these tasks. Specific play along videos have been created for vocalists, bass players, drummers and all other instrumentalists.

In addition to the play along videos, there’s a special instructional video by JMI’s Course Coordinator Charlotte Mclean specifically for vocalists, explaining how to sing a melody and play root notes to the chord changes over your chosen repertoire standard piece.

In the audition pack there are links to sheet music for all the audition repertoire, as well as links to instructional notation of how to perform arpeggios through all of the pieces.

We have also included an extensive Theory and Aural Handbook, which explains every concept that is tested in the theory and aural tests as part of the audition process.

When should I audition?

Auditions are available by appointment and you can apply for an audition by completing the online application form here.

Auditions are open until the end of January 2025, but we recommend auditioning sooner rather than later. Many people usually try and leave it to the last moment to audition because they feel they are not ready yet. However, JMI’s audition process is not meant to be a “make or break” situation, where if there’s something you can’t perform you won’t get into the course.

We take the approach that the audition process is just a way for us to understand where your performance ability and theory knowledge is at, so that we can identify what you need to work on to be ready to start the program.

We provide additional support after the audition for you if there are areas of the audition where you need to develop before starting the course. So the earlier you come in and audition, the more time we have to work with you to get you up to speed to start the program at JMI. See the below video featuring JMI’s CEO Nick Quigley who explains the audition process and why JMI is the best place to study music.

If you would like a tour of JMI’s campus, please feel free to book in a free information session where you can come in and see our facilities and ask any questions you have related to our courses, enrolment processes, career pathways and opportunities, and general life as a JMI student. You can book an information session by filling out the contact form here.

Hope to see you auditioning for JMI’s renowned Bachelor and Diploma programs in 2025!
