This trio will present Garton’s compositions alongside alto saxophone heroes such as Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz, Benny Carter, Paul Desmond, Ornette Coleman and Bernie McGann.

Andrew Garton is a Brisbane based saxophone player, composer and arranger. Andrew studied the saxophone and composition under the guidance of Tony Hobbs from 1999 to 2003. In 2017 he completed his Master of Music Research at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
Andrew has composed extensively for his own group, the Abbreviations Orchestra as well as many other ensembles. Andrew received a commission from Jazz Queensland to compose an extended work for the Abbreviations Orchestra which was premiered as part of the Q150 celebrations and the 2009 Valley Jazz Festival. Andrew Garton has also composed and arranged music for jazz big bands including the Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra, the Mace Francis Orchestra (as part of the Chinese Whispers III project) and the Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. In 2009 Andrew was commissioned by the Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra to compose a suite for jazz orchestra.
Andrew Garton currently performs regularly with the Holy Rollercoasters, Ghostwoods, Brunswick Street Parade, the Funky Butt Club, the Wicked Messenger, the Francis Wolves, and his jazz quartet The Scornful Four (2024 finalist for the Queensland Music Award jazz category).

Ticket Refund Policy
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms and are unable to attend after having purchased a ticket, please contact the JMI office (07 3216 1110 or email play@jazz.qld.edu.au) as soon as possible during business hours (10AM-4PM) to let us know you won’t be able to attend. A full refund will be given if we are contacted prior to a performance. Refunds will not be processed if we are contacted after the gig.
