Bachelor Of Music In Jazz Performance

This 3-year performance-based degree program will unlock your musical potential and help you become the best musician you can be. Along the way you’ll become an expert on music harmony and improvisation, developing the performance skills you need for a lifelong career in the music industry.

Diploma of Music in Jazz Performance

This 1-year full time music course will give you all the foundational theory, aural and performance skills to kick-start your career as a performing musician. You will spend the majority of class time playing your instrument, developing your skills in improvisation and ensemble settings.

Group Classes

Night Classes

JMI’s Night Classes will give you a better understanding of the jazz language by learning theory and improvisation techniques through performance and jazz repertoire. The classes are perfect for anyone from a jazz novice, to those with some experience, or someone looking to study tertiary music in the future and would like to get a head start before they begin study.

Youth Program

JMI’s Youth Program is designed for current high school students (ages 12 to 17 years old) who love music and are looking to further their musical development with like-minded peers. This program is the perfect preparation for students looking to study music after high school or for young musicians that just want to keep developing.

Summer Jazz  Clinics

These clinics have been running since the late 1970s and have been instrumental in the development of many of Australia’s finest jazz musicians. The clinics are a 4-day short course in jazz performance delivered by JMI’s esteemed faculty. Ideal for anyone looking to either start learning how to play jazz, or build upon the knowledge they already have.

JMI is offering a range of school workshops at high schools. These workshops are interactive, informative and full of practical musical ideas and concepts. This is a performance workshop where we will bring out a quartet of musicians led by one of JMI’s senior staff to perform standard jazz repertoire for your students.

1 on 1 Lessons

Private Lessons

JMI are offering private music lessons to students of all ages and abilities. JMI’s Private Lessons are delivered by talented and knowledgeable graduates of our Bachelor program. JMI’s Private Lessons are offered as 1-hour one-on-one lessons available in either single lesson, 3 x lesson, 5 x lesson or 10 x lesson packages.

A range of online music courses available through Jazz Music Institute, a place where everyone can study jazz! These courses are delivered by Brent Stanton from New York City. The platform focuses on specific study techniques and practice systems to further performance skills. There are several formats, depending on level of interactivity.
